Before studying Arts I did my Bachelor Degree in Arts and Multimedia. In my first academic studies I was confronted with most digital media and how to use them in creative, functional or artistic way. I appreciate the wide field of modern creativity tools that I got to know. But actually I felt deeper connected to handcraft because I can express myself more immediate. So I decided to go back to theroots and applied at the Academy of fine Arts in Munich. I visited my Professor with giant artworks of naked bodies and peculiar cartoons. The painting showed strong emotion, pubertal suffering and indignation. Although it became more calm inside myself, I still stand for an type of art that results out of the psyche. So please enjoy watching my pictural diary.

Patrick Hartl (*1976) is a German contemporary artist with a passion for handwriting and lettering. As of age 15, he was painting Graffiti and learning the ropes of art within the urban sphere. His graphic studies revealed a love for calligraphy and stylised writing with deep roots in the gothic script of his native Germany. Patrick Hartl connects old craftsmanship with modern street style. On closer inspection, Hartl’s seemingly monochrome works turn out to be the result of a multitude of layers of paint and a colourful diversity. His favourite canvas is a ten-years-old wall, which has been bombed, cleaned, bombed again, crashed, washed, damaged, but which always tells a new and unique story. As a master of handcrafted designs and analogue works, and one of the foremost urban calligraphers, Patrick Hartl has been involved in making art for more than two decades. An avid collaborator, Hartl belongs to the “CALLIGRAFFITI AMBASSADORS” and, in addition to exhibiting in traditional galleries from New York to Buenos Aires to Tokyo, and he has painted murals across Europe and beyond.

Lone Wolf is a picture book whose name is derived from the provision of the U.S.A. Patriot act which seeks to create a legal framework that allows the government to surveil individuals not associated with any group or country who are believed to be engaged in terrorist activities. Comprised of screenshots from reality television shows depicting expressions of physical force within three sectors of american society: police, local militia, and the U.S. military, excerpts from congressional hearings of the 112th and 113th congresses on the Patriot act give context to the images. The photographic images have been converted into large halftone dot compositions, which might imply an information flow—or lack of—that exposes theroots of suspicion and intolerance that culminate in statements like “see something, say something.”
"Texts from 'Let there be light,' directed by John Huston, 1946, and four congressional hearings on the USA Patriot Act between 2009 and 2011 (111th and 112th Congress). Images from various reality television shows including Cops, Moonshiners, Sons of Guns, The Colony, American Guns and Alaska State Troopers, as well as Flickr.com"--Colophon
Title based on the Lone Wolf provision on surveillance in the USA Patriot Act.

Fortepan Masters is a photographic album, which includes the most remarkable images from the collection of Fortepan, the most significant modern Hungarian online photographic archive. Photographer Szabolcs Barakonyi who has been editing thematic selections of photographs from Fortepan’s compilation for years has embarked on selecting with a keen eye 330 that he regards as the best and most exciting from the collection of more than a hundred thousand images, in such a way that the internal nature of the photographs would freely unfold. His selection highlights the poetry in the pictures, their artistic value, the “fine art” so far hidden in this enormous archive. His principle of selection did not involve enforcing historical or thematic viewpoints, but finding outstanding photographs excelling in their beauty, purity, aesthetic significance, and sorting them without any thematic obligation. The end result is a subjective selection compiled with an expert’s eye. The book is a pioneering undertaking connected to the latest trends in photography: via the conception of private photography and online archives, it presents an exceptional collection of pre-digital photography.
The book is an original experiment whereby an international brand of photography is created on the basis of a so-called “crowdsourced” archive, a work of collective authors. It is as if the so-far hidden heritage of a formerly unknown photographer of international standing was presented to the world – yet the author is the collective self of several hundred, mostly non-professional photographers.
Fortepan Masters represents an opportunity by means of which Hungary can present itself on the international cultural market as never before. The 20th century photographs published in the book present the historical and cultural heritage of Hungarian society’s everyday life, as well as theroots of Hungarian photographic thinking which exists in private photography and is linked to world heritage.
