The Piracy Project is an international publishing and exhibition project exploring the philosophical, legal and practical implications of book piracy and creative modes of reproduction. Through research and an international call for submissions, the Project has gathered a collection of more than 150 modified, appropriated and copied books from all over the world. The collection, which is catalogued online, is the starting point for talks and work groups around the concept of originality, the notion of authorship and politics of copyright. The Piracy Project is not about stealing or forgery. It is about creating a platform to innovatively explore the spectrum of copying, re-editing, translating, paraphrasing, imitating, re-organising, manipulating of already existing works. Allgemein Kunstinteressierten kaum bekannt und als Gegenstand eher verschlossen, ist das Künstlerbuch eine Art Ikone und Kultobjekt der Kunst- und Bibliotheksgeschichte geworden. Das Buch an sich ist einer der funktionalsten und liberalsten, oft auch preiswertesten Informationsträger der Kulturgeschichte. Doch welche Rolle spielt dabei das Künstlerbuch?
Ausgehend von einer der umfassendsten Künstlerbücher-Sammlungen der Schweiz, derjenigen der Nationalbibliothek, hat die Herausgeberin und Autorin Susanne Bieri anhand von 112 Interviews das schweizerische Artist’s Book im internationalen Kontext verhandelt, rund 450 Fragen gestellt, jedoch mehr als 450 Antworten erhalten, da diese erneut zu rund 650 Annotationen, Assoziationen und Anekdoten führten. Damit liegt mit Schweizer Künstlerbücher – Livres d’artistes suisses – Libri d’artista svizzeri – Swiss artists’ books erstmals ein einzigartiges enzyklopädisches Künstlerbücher-Kompendium vor.

Im Kompendium sind alle Texte auf Englisch, je nach Nationalität der Interviewten zudem in der jeweiligen Landessprache - deutsch, französisch oder italienisch - publiziert worden. Das Nachwort von Susanne Bieri, Mitarbeiterin der Schweizer Nationalbibliothek, ist in allen vier Sprachen abgedruckt.
Die Buchvernissage fand am 17.06.2022 im Rahmen der Veranstaltung I Never Read, Art Book Fair Basel in Basel statt.
Alle erwähnten Künstlerbuchtitel sind an Ort und Stelle mit einem Permalink versehen, welcher zu dem Bucheintrag in der Schweizer Nationalbibliothek führen soll.

Through a range of texts and a comprehensive list representing collaborative research, readers might explore in this volume the intersections of these concepts, addressing social agency, architecture, as well as discourse and theory.
