Rex Reason presents the Periodic Table of the Elements in book form. A colour-coding system is set up (black for solids, blue for liquids and yellow synthetics) but where we might expect to find hydrogen, helium or lithium we find Yul Brynner, William Hogarth and Maria Callas. The selected names relate to the chemical symbol for each element: both letters must appear in the chosen name for example, Bertolt Brecht (Br, Bromine).
A loose logic prevails in the choice of names, for example names in red, gases, are from Greek myth or history and the yellow synthetic elements are given their proper names. However, Patterson disrupts this system with red herrings, mysteries and riddles that test the reader’s knowledge and that expose the inherent human desire to establish order and meaning

Gerz zeigt in seinem Projekt, daß das Museum, in dem des Lagers gedacht wird und in dem all dies [Greul des Lagers, Anm. Red.] reflektiert werden soll, nach nicht unähnlichen Führungslinien funktioniert. Die Öffentlichkeit wird reguliert, klassifiziert und nur spärlich informiert durch ein Zeichensystem maßgeblicher Regulation, das gleichermaßen mit einem Ausgang endet. So werden das Lager und das "Lager als Museum" zu ineinandergreifenden Systemen. In der Installation des Projekts wurde ein anderes System, eines des Informationsstudiums mit Reihen von Schreibtischen, die von schwachen Lampen beleuchtet waren, der Ausstellung hinzugefügt.

La comunidad fue creciendo y abandonó el formato blog para pasarse definitivamente al formato web y seguian creciendo, primero montaron una pequeña exposición con una selección de sus artistas, lo segundo hacer una pequeña edición de una revista en formato fanzine como siempre proponiendo un tema esta vez el cine.

The beach is located within the British Western Sovereign Base Area, one of two territories (the other being Dhekelia) controversially retained by the British under the 1960 treaty of independence. A playful nod to the past, it received its name after the first British governor's horse 'Lady', which he would exercise along the coastal stretch.

Martin Parr’s Scottish Postboxes have been described as the prolific photographer’s ‘only contribution to landscape photography’. However, what Mr. Parr has achieved with these images is more a series of portraits of the lonely outposts of civilisation. The Postboxes in each place, standing out red and awkward against the lonely and beautiful Scottish backdrops each have a personality and a character of their own.
The postboxes are not only characters in the places they inhabit, they are symbols. the steadfast outposts of the institution that is the British postal service set against the untamable Scottish landscape invite the viewer the pause and ponder on their own place in the world.

Spanning almost three decades, 'Moonshine' is a portrait of the American Appalachian folk, a mythologised region populated by ‘moonshiners’. Van Manen’s images are defined by a fierce intimacy with her subject, as the viewer teeters on the edge of the frame, perpetually trespassing on private moments: rollicking children practicing handstands on the couch. a kneeling daughter combing the hair of her grandmother.
Van Manen first visited the region in 1985, to the Appalachian areas of Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia, returning periodically up until 2013 to visit mining families with whom she lived: the Boggs family with their ten red-haired sons. miners Mavis and Junior. The intergenerational images subtly trace the insidious changes undergone by Appalachia – the slow and steady demise of the mining industry, and the migration of inhabitants from ramshackle wooden cabins to the city, or urban trailer parks. Van Manen intermixes black-and-white images with later colour work – another register of time passing and the inevitability of change.

In the second volume of his series chronicling the 1977 fire at New York’s Everard Baths, Anthony Malone focuses on Bellevue Hospital’s blood drive for the victims of the great bathhouse tragedy. Malone draws parallels between the 1977 restrictions placed on gay men for donating blood to their “brothers” and current FDA guidelines that indefinitely defer donations from men who have had sex with men since 1977. This black and white photocopied zine (ed 100) juxtaposes archival images, news clippings, and just a touch of fantasy.

Volume 3 of the series, For Everard is dedicated to the memory of Jimmy Stuard, who died in the tragic fire at the Everard Baths in 1977. Stuard was a rising star in the disco music scene. He spun records first at Boston’s 1270 Club, and later at New York’s 12 West, where he inspired an entire generation of musical artists and DJs. In this particular volume, Anthony Malone assembles images and archival texts that serve as a tribute to the great Jimmy Stuard.

For Everard, Vol. 4 (A Lovely Show) is a tribute to Kenneth Hill, one of the nine men who died in the devastating fire at the Everard Baths in 1977. Kenn played a vital role in the East Village/Lower East side countercultural movement in the late ‘60s and 1970s. He was a hippie, a bar tender at Phebe’s (a watering hole and salon for the experimental theater community in the 1970s), one of the founders of the Old Reliable Theatre Tavern, House Manager at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club, and a photographer. This zine celebrates Kenneth Hill by collaging archival documents with personal artifacts and pictures of Kenn from meaningful moments in his life.

For Everard, Vol. 5 (A Dearly Loved Man) assembles images and stories from the life of Ira Landau, a gifted and dedicated teacher who died in the tragic fire at the Everard Baths in 1977. Ira left behind a devoted family (his mother, brother, niece, and lover) and is still greatly missed by his loved ones. This zine is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of a remarkable man who served in the Peace Corps and committed himself to educating young minds both abroad (in the Middle East) and at home in the US. It contains family photos and personal images generously contributed by Ira’s niece.

Volume 6 of the series For Everard celebrates the life of a remarkable musical prodigy, Yosef Synovec. This zine tells the story of a young man with great aspirations who emigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia to study classical violin. In 1976, Holly Woodlawn overheard Synovec vocalizing as he was painting the bathroom of his East Village apartment, and determined on the spot that she had discovered an emerging star. As a singer, Synovec used his extreme vocal range to imitate the voice and persona of Peruvian diva Yma Sumac. He performed Sumac’s exotic musical numbers at several New York City cabarets and show venues. Sadly, on May 25, 1977, Yosef perished in the tragic fire at the Everard Baths.
For Everard, Vol. 7 (Tony from the Bronx), 2017, ed. 100 (Nr. 86)
This zine brings together images and stories from the life of Tony Calarco, one of the nine men who died in the fire at the Everard Baths in 1977. Tony was only 26 when he died. He lived with his parents and siblings in a modest house in the Bronx. He had recently graduated from college and was working as a social worker in New York city at the time of his death. Tony had aspirations to become a lawyer and was scheduled to begin law school in September of 1977. This zine celebrates Tony Calarco’s memory through photos of Tony, artifacts from his high school and college years, and recent photographs of his home and final resting place.
For Everard, Vol. 8 (Looking for Amado), 2017, ed. 100 (Nr.84)
Amado Alamo, a young man only 17 years old, lost his life in the fire at the Everard Baths in 1977. In Volume 8 of For Everard, Anthony Malone documents his search for the identity of the youngest victim of the Everard fire. The zine is an abstracted portrait of Alamo that assembles the few extant fragments of his story culled from newspaper articles and documentary sources glued together with the artist’s imagination.

Life was difficult for Hillman Wesley Adams. He was born in Jacksonville FL in 1938. His mother died just a few months after his birth, and by the age of nine, he found himself in an orphanage with his older brother. Fast forward 30 years: Hillman moved to NYC, struggled to make ends meet while working on and off as a bartender, and he met his lover, Ralph, with whom he shared a modest apartment in New Jersey. On May 25, 1977, Hillman died in the fire at the Everard Baths. Vol. 9 of For Everard is an assemblage of newspaper articles and vintage photos chronicling the life and untimely death of Hillman Wesley Adams.
For Everard, Vol. 10 (In Memoriam: Patrick Nott), 2018, ed. 100 (Nr. 64)
Volume 10 of For Everard memorializes the life of Patrick Nott, one of the nine men who died in the fire at the Everard Baths. Nott, a native of Wales with a passion for theater, literature, and music, pursued a successful career in hairdressing. He fell in love with his pen pal (a young woman from Brooklyn) and after their marriage, they moved to New York City, where Nott worked at the Vidal Sassoon Salon. This zine weaves together elements from his story (shared with the artist by Patrick Nott’s wife), with photographs, newspaper clippings, and artifacts. It acts as a humble tribute, an “In Memoriam” for this greatly loved man.

Brian Duffy was an aspiring artist. In 1966 he was accepted to Pratt Institute of Art and although he declined admission to the school, he seized the opportunity to move to NYC and start a new life for himself. In the city, he worked hard at various retail jobs and tried to break into the theater, but everything changed when he met the love of his life, Bradley. The couple moved to a “quieter life” in Boston. They worked in restaurants in the Back Bay area and created a community for themselves amongst their chosen family of friends. Volume 11 of For Everard celebrates the brief life of Brian Duffy, a young man who died in the fire at the Everard Baths in 1977. This zine compiles photographs and stories shared with Malone by Brian’s sister and dear friend.
The pseudonym "Anthony Malone" comes from a novel by Andrew Holleran (Dancer from the Dance). In this novel, Malone is the protagonist and at the end he disappears. Some of his friends believe that he may have committed suicide, others feel that he may have run away from New York, while some say that they saw him at the Everard Baths on the night of the fire. I imagine that Malone survived the fire and he is now making books and zines telling the story of the tragedy.

Der Titel von Jamsins Text lautete im Original maison de rêve, Haus des Traumes - und wurde 1984 von Bernard Damien für das Theater adaptiert und in Brüssel im Minuscule Théatre aufgeführt.
Jamsin, Brenner und Jean-Pierre Denefve - Galerie KOMA - hatten die Idee zu dem Projekt im belgischen Kloster.
2006 entstanden die Fotos - des Kataloges - in der Chapel Carmel in Brugelette.
Ursprünglich ein Franziskanerinnen-Kloster wurde es im frühen 19. Jahrhundert zur Ausbildung von Söhnen adliger Familien aus ganz Europa frequentiert. Es unterrichteten dort Jesuiten aus Frankreich - für sie galt Unterrichtsverbot in Frankreich durch Karl X. - bis Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts.
2007 folgte die Ausstellung und 2008 der Katalog.
Michel Jamsin ist Maler, der auch die Kunst des Schreibens nutzte, um seine Bilder mit eben einem anderem künstlerischem Mittel zu erzeugen - das Theater, die Bühne als intensive Bildsprache, wie sie auch durch Malerei und eine Fotokunst wie jene Brenners möglich ist.

Dieses Arbeitsbuch wurde für Let's Mobilize - einer dreitägigen Untersuchung queerer und feministischer Pädagogik an der Valand Academy in Göteborg vom 12.10.-14.10.2016 - veröffentlicht: Was ist Feministische Pädagogik? Es enthält Auszüge aus Texten, die wir im Laufe der Zeit gelesen haben, Beiträge von InitiatorInnen und TeilnehmerInnen der Mobilisierung, MitarbeiterInnen und Studierenden von Valand und andere Formen von Äußerungen. Sie dient als Instrument zur Information und zum Austausch über die Diskussionen, die die Arbeitsgruppe im Vorfeld der Mobilisierung geführt hat. Sie ist auch ein Hilfsmittel, um die kritische Reflexion in der Studentenschaft der Kunstakademie Valand zu fördern.
Die Arbeitsgruppe wurde durch den Wunsch ausgelöst, eine queere und feministische Perspektive auf das Lernen und Lehren innerhalb und außerhalb der Kunsthochschule zu artikulieren und Raum dafür zu schaffen. Sie baut auf der Critical Practices: Education from Arts and Artists Conference an der Valand Academy (Oktober 2015) und der Ausstellung Meaning Making Meaning im A-venue (März 2016) in Göteborg.
Alle Studierenden und Mitarbeiter der Valand Academy waren eingeladen, sich dieser offenen Arbeitsgruppe anzuschließen. Im Laufe des vergangenen Jahres haben wir uns mittags getroffen, zu Hause zu Abend gegessen, uns in Bars oder über Skype, in unseren Ateliers und Büros getroffen, Spaziergänge und Exkursionen unternommen, ganztägige Sitzungen abgehalten und Gäste eingeladen, um mit ihnen zu brainstormen und von ihnen zu lernen. Wir haben Texte gelesen, Erfahrungen ausgetauscht, Zweifel und Bedenken geäußert. Wir folgten unserem Wunsch, nicht als Einzelne zu kämpfen, sondern zusammenzukommen und die Bedeutung von queeren und feministischen Themen in der Bildung anzuerkennen.
Die Kernarbeitsgruppe bestand aus Andreas Engman, Eva Weinmayr, Gabo Camnitzer, Kanchan Burathoki, Mary Coble und Rose Borthwick; die erweiterte Gruppe aus vielen weiteren Mitgliedern des Personals, der Verwaltung und der Studierenden der Valand Academy, ... Die vierte Ausgabe des Buffer Fringe Festivals wurde unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Charalambia Theophanous organisiert und fand zwischen dem 08.-11.11.2017 in der Altstadt von Nikosia statt. Das Festival fand an verschiedenen nicht-theatergebundenen Orten und öffentlichen Plätzen statt: in Garage, am Faneromeni-Platz, am Selimiye-Platz, am Arasta-Platz, am Bedesten und im Bandabulya.
Alle Aktivitäten im Rahmen des Festivalprogramms waren öffentlich, für alle zugänglich und kostenlos. Seit 1966 erweitert The Poetry Project den Zugang zu Literatur, Bildung und Möglichkeiten zum Austausch der eigenen kreativen Arbeit in einem gegenhierarchischen, radikal offenen Raum und einer Gemeinschaft. Ausgehend von der Vision, dass kulturelles Handeln auf lokaler Ebene einen breiteren Wandel des öffentlichen Bewusstseins inspirieren kann, hat sich das Projekt der Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit bei wiederholbaren Programmmodellen verschrieben, die hartnäckige soziale Narrative in Frage stellen, insbesondere durch die verbale Neuausrichtung, die durch Poesie möglich wird. Wir tun dies durch eine Kombination von Live-Lesungen, Performances, Vorträgen, Veranstaltungen und Workshops, zusätzlich zu literarischen und kritischen Publikationen und aufstrebenden Schriftstellern und kuratorischen Stipendienprogrammen.
Das Poetry Project hat seinen Sitz in der St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery, einem lebendigen Kunst- und Gemeinschaftsraum, zu dem auch die St. Mark's Church-Gemeinde, das Danspace Project und das New York Theatre Ballet gehören.

Dokumentation zur künstlerischen Praxis von Marianna Buchwald.
Marianna Buchwald - Geboren in Deutschland. Ihre Eltern, die Künstler Hella und Hans-Ulrich Buchwald, gründeten 1969 das Maskentheater Scharnier-Theater Hannover. Das Scharniertheater engagiert Tänzer, Schauspieler und Musiker sowie Choreographen und Regisseure aus aller Welt. Durch den Kontakt mit dem französischen Pantomimen Jean Soubeyran entschied sich Marianna für ein Pantomimenstudium an der Internationalen Hochschule für Tanz und Theater, Folkwang Hochschule Essen. Im Jahr 1980 zog sie nach Chicago. Dort unterrichtet sie Dynamische Pantomime am MoMing, dem Goodman Theatre und dem Cultural Arts Center CCS St. Mels. Ihr Studium ermöglichte es ihr, ein Bewegungsvokabular zu entwickeln, um Stücke mit dynamischem und vitalem Charakter zu gestalten. Ihr Talent, das groteske Absurde mit dem tragischen Konkreten zu verbinden, kommt in fließenden oder manchmal abrupten und intensiven Bewegungen zum Ausdruck.
Immer neugierig, die Künstler ihrer Umgebung kennenzulernen, nahm sie an der Arbeit des Tänzers Bill T. Jones teil, arbeitete mit dem Multimediakünstler Ping Chong und dem Mimen Rob List aus New York. Inspiriert von Ping Chongs Art, Filmprojektion, Ton und Licht mit Stimme, Sprache und Bewegung zu einer totalen Theatererfahrung zu verbinden, entschied sie sich 1983 für ein Studium der Performance Art an der School of the Art Institute in Chicago.
Die Themen ihrer Arbeiten, sowohl die für ihre Studenten choreographierten Ensembles als auch ihre Solo-Auftritte, sind oft von der Welt der Märchen und des Fantastischen inspiriert. Sie tragen Titel wie: "Impulse 1982, The Making of Man 1983, Red Beast 1983, Spanish Fairytale 1984, Between Night and Day 1985 und Chamelion Games 1985, Dangerous Fields 1985".
Bei ihren Stücken handelt es sich nicht um reine Pantomime, sondern um Kompositionen aus Elementen, die vom modernen bis zum primitiven Tanz reichen, um den Einsatz von Stimme und Wort sowie von Objekten und Masken, um Tonaufnahmen und Diaprojektionen.
Ihre Arbeit bewegt sich auf verschiedenen Ebenen des theatralen Ausdrucks.

Diese neu konzipierte Ausstellung nimmt doppelt so viel Platz ein wie die ursprünglichen Getty-Ausstellungen Crosscurrents in L.A. Painting and Sculpture, 1950-1970 und Greetings from L.A.: Artists and Publics, 1950-1980 und enthält viele neue Werke, wie etwa Sam Francis' monumentales Gemälde Berlin Red, das 1969 in Los Angeles als Auftragsarbeit für die Neue Nationalgalerie entstand. Neu hinzugekommen sind auch mehr als 50 Fotografien von Julius Shulman, dem wichtigsten amerikanischen Architekturfotografen der Nachkriegszeit, eine Auswahl von Fotografien von Dennis Hopper sowie separate Galerien, die den Arbeiten der Künstler Larry Bell, Robert Graham, Bruce Nauman und James Turrell gewidmet sind.
Die Ausstellung ist sowohl chronologisch als auch thematisch aufgebaut und zeichnet den Aufstieg der südkalifornischen Kunstszene zwischen 1950 und 1980 nach. Sie zeigt Assemblage-Skulpturen und Collagen von Künstlern wie Ed Bereal, Wallace Berman und George Herms sowie Gemälde von David Hockney und Ed Ruscha. Hockneys ikonisches Gemälde A Bigger Splash von 1967 ist eines der Schlüsselwerke der Ausstellung.
Die Ausstellung geht auch der Frage nach, wie Künstler aus Südkalifornien die konventionelle Beziehung zwischen Kunst und Öffentlichkeit veränderten. Fotografien, Künstlerkataloge, Bücher, Plakate, Postkarten, Einladungen, Briefe und Kunstwerke veranschaulichen, wie diese Künstler Alternativen für eine öffentliche Rolle der Kunst und ihren Platz in der Gesellschaft entwickelten.
